National Training on Ballast Water Management held in Liberia

The National Training on Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement (CME) of the Ballast Water Management (BMW) Convention was held from December 10-11, 2012 at the MRMRCC in Monrovia. The National Training, organized under the Integrated Technical Programme of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for 2012, provided practical knowledge on Port and Flag States Control procedures required under the BMW Convention (inspection of national and foreign ships, review of ballast water certificates and record books, etc).

The training was delivered by an IMO contracted Consultant, Mr. Mamudu Abdulai-Saiku from the Republic of Ghana together with Dr. Jacques Abe from the Interim Guinea Current Commission (IGCC) who represented the IMO GloBallast Partnership Project.

The training was attended by more than 35 participants from the Ministries of Agriculture, Justice and Defense, GMT and OBT Shipping Lines and staff of the Liberia Maritime Authority. The meeting was a follow-up to the regional training on CME attended by a participant from Liberia last year in Lomé, Togo.
