Paynesville, Liberia, July 2, 2025 — The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) officially honored 22 staff members retiring from public service in a ceremony held at Paynesville City Hall on Wednesday.

The event brought together senior government officials, staff, and the families of the retirees, who were acknowledged for their decades of service to both the institution and the country’s maritime sector.

Cllr. Nya S. Gbaintor, Principal Director of Administration and Legal Services at LiMA, described the occasion as a moment of institutional pride, recognizing the significant contributions of the retiring personnel. “Their dedication has helped shape the professionalism and resilience we value at LiMA today,” he said.

Awards were presented by Mr. John B. Cuffey, Principal Director of Corporate Affairs, who praised the honorees for their years of loyalty and commitment. He noted that their service had strengthened the Authority’s foundation and set a benchmark for future generations.

Speaking on behalf of LiMA’s Board of Directors, Vice Chair of the Board, Mrs. Mornjay George-Pratt, encouraged the retirees to approach their next chapter with optimism and continued purpose. “Life at 60 is not an end but a continuation,” she remarked.

Cllr. Moifee Kanneh, Deputy Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), assured the retirees of the institution’s support in accessing their pensions and benefits without delays.

Mr. James A. A. Morris, delivering a heartfelt message on behalf of the honorees, expressed gratitude to LiMA’s leadership and staff, highlighting the strong bonds that had been built over the years. “We did not just work together, we became family,” he said.

The Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., thanked the retirees for their many years of invaluable service to LiMA and Liberia. He stressed that the Authority’s relationship with the retirees would not end with their departure. “You remain part of LiMA’s legacy,” he said.
