LiMA Boss Advocates More Support for Regional Maritime University; As Liberians Score High Marks at End of Studies

Accra, Ghana - iberia’s Maritime Commissioner Eugene Lenn Nagbehas called on West African nations to continuously lend support to the Regional Maritime University in order to produce well-trained personnel for the industry. The Commissioner challenged the senior management team at the school to be more "aggressive and innovative" in confronting the travails of the institution.
He was speaking on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the 16th Graduation exercise of the school in Acccra, Ghana, where ten Liberians were amongst dozens who received degrees in various disciplines of the maritime sector. The Liberian students, most of whom graduated with high marks, were sponsored by the Liberia Maritime Authority.
Commissioner Nagbe was also in Accra to participate in the 27th Board of Governors meeting of the school. He told the audience at the graduation program that the success of the school over the years is a clear demonstration of how regional cooperation is the best way to address common challenges, including in maritime sector.
The RMU is an international tertiary institution founded by Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. It is one of the oldest maritime universities in Africa, with an overall objective of promoting regional cooperation, while also focusing on training and development.
Five of the ten Liberian students graduated with summa cum laude, three of whom were women:
Matilda Koffa, Josephine Zayzay, Monica Nancy Candny.
As a mark of support for the Liberian women, the Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, Emma Glassco, and Maritime Deputy Commissioner, Cllr. Margaret Ansumana, graced program.
At the ceremony, commissioner Nagbe expressed his deep appreciation for the excellent performance of the three women, while assuring them that the Liberia Maritime Authority will explore the possible of job placement for them.
