The Liberia Maritime Authority activated its rescue mechanism having received distress alert from a locally registered vessel that had gone aground off the shores of Sophie Community in Congo Town.
The Monrovia Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRMRCC) received the distress alert from the vessel indicating mechanical problem due to engine failure
caused by contaminated bunker fuel as reported by the captain of the vessel.
As search and rescue operations were underway, the vessel drifted and went aground along the Coast behind the Sophie Community. The crew of 13 persons were rescued through a joint mission led by the Liberian Coast Guard.
