Monrovia, Liberia - Despite the avalanche of Covid-19 and the advent of the new variant- Delta virus that are taking the world by storm, supply chains and global commerce remain intact. Thanks to the bravery of Seafarers who are the real anchors behind the smooth operations of marine transportation. We can not thank them enough for these heroic contributions as Liberia joins other Maritime nations to
observe the Day of the Seafarer on June 25, 2021.
This year's theme: A FAIR FUTURE FOR SEAFARERS tacitly speaks to our vision at the Liberia Maritime Authority to build the competitive edge of Liberian Seafarers in order to ensure that they are on pile with their colleagues worldwide.
The Liberia Maritime Authority holds close to its chest issues affecting Seafarers that will still be relevant even after the pandemic shall have subsided: job opportunities, fair treatment, and international representations.
LiMA takes cognizance of the invaluable contributions Seafarers have made and continue to make especially during these trying times to stay true to their professional duties to keep the flow of essential goods including medical supplies, food and fuel.
In the absence of these contributions, global economy would be stifled. Hence, we applaud the Seafarers everywhere for their service this year, more than ever.
Unlike normal times, staying away from families and loved ones under difficult and unprecedented period of world history imbued by Coronavirus Disease is heart wrenching.
To our Seafarers in Liberia, we say hats off to you for your services amid the challenges that abound. We had hoped that this year's International Day of the Seafarer would be celebrated in unique way but circumstances have presented otherwise. Our vision to build your capacity and augment your competitiveness in the Maritime labor sector remains steady notwithstanding.
