Liberia Hosts Regional Maritime University 19th Board of Governors Meeting; Maritime Commissioner Dr. James F. Kollie becomes new Board Chair

The 19th Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Regional Maritime University based in Accra, Ghana took place in Monrovia from March 20th to 23rd, 2018 at the Bella Cassa Hotel. The Board of Governors is the highest decision making body of the University structure with powers to approve staffing/HR proposals, budget, new academic programs as well as conclude agreements between the University and other institutions/individuals. It comprises the heads of Transport Ministries and Maritime Administrations of the Member Countries - Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
he Meeting starts with a meeting of the Committee of Experts from the five (5) member states who gather during the first three (3) days to discuss proposals/recommendations from the Management Team of the University in order to adequately advise members of the Board for the appropriate actions.
The Board then meets on the last day to take the necessary actions as recommended/advised by the Committee of Experts. The chairmanship of the Board is rotational - with each member state chairing for two years. Liberia assumed the chairmanship on March 23, 2018. This means that the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority - Dr. James F. Kollie is the new Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Regional Maritime Univerity for a two-year term.
